Can my husband sign his rights over to avoid paying for child support?

My husband had a one night thing with a girl. He went over there drunk and they had sex then got the girl pregnant. The girl says it's his. She also said she would never ask for a dime, but just to be there for her and the baby. Well, now that he had found a job, she want him to pay for child support. My husband told her that the baby should go up for adoption but she won't and we are worried he is going to have to pay child support. We can't even offord care for our baby and ourselves. He thinks it would be better to just sign his rights over. Any advice?
